feature of the month: july '10 |
Sally Coleman wanted a four foot wide countertop for her sizeable peninsula. Understandably, she didn't want a seam running down the centre of it. Charles Lantz Cabinetry's custom Arborite countertop was perfect for the job. "Everything done by CLC shows impeccable craftsmanship," enthuses Sally. "The time they spent with me. The gentlemen he has working for him. I was really impressed with everyone at the shop - they are very, very diligent. When they installed the cabinetry they worked 10 - 12 hours a day. They're so dedicated. Every penny was well spent."
Sally and Bob Coleman's six-month build transformed a two bedroom, 800 square foot, prefab bungalow into a beautiful, spacious home. Sally was on the site every day - tool belt and all. "Buying locally," she says, "was very important to both of us. The material, the construction was all local except the aluminum roof was from B.C., but we had local installers. We reused doors, windows and trim from the prefab. The kitchen cabinetry went to the garage, shed and hobby room. The siding, the cement stairs were given away. Very little went to landfill."
Behind the beautifully crafted doors there is storage built with purpose tasks in mind. "We do a lot of entertaining," she says. "The peninsula has deep drawers with BBQ gear near the back door. It's very functional."

Bob Coleman is 6'6" tall and left-handed.
Look closely and you'll see that his work station, to the left of the range, is higher than normal in this Shaker-style kitchen.
"They did a fantastic job," says Sally.
"Look at the different heights, the crown moldings!"

The pantry's CLC cherry melamine cabinetry is Euro style - again, very functional. Deep drawers safely and conveniently store chinaware, appliances, lobster pots, Christmas dishes, patio dishes . . . a built-in ironing board is ambidextrous - it can be used by right-handed Sally or left-handed Bob.

Charles Lantz crew & comment
"CLC's Coleman build crew were Roy Parson, Richard Hirtle and Dana Tanner. The contractor was Peter Wagner Construction Ltd (902-644-2511).
The kitchen is natural cherry, shaker style. You will notice the countertop acts like a sill for the windows. The master bathroom is
contemporary style with matched drawer and
door panels.
"Bob and Sally have great taste. Sally had a wonderful vision that included plenty of space for Bob and her both to work in
their beautiful kitchen. Thank you for allowing CLC to help you!" - Charles Lantz
