kitchen feature of the month: march '13 |
"In planning for the expansion and renovation of our country kitchen, we had long, long ago decided that when the time came it would be Charles Lantz we would approach to do our cabinetry. We presented a significant challenge to him and his very talented and capable crew: to meld the new with the old, while maintaining the character of a 200+ year old farm house," says Sandy. Now you see the built-in, pull-out pantry . . . and now you don't! Walk around the cabinet and, below, see a different view of the fridge.

Photo left shows what used to be a tiny pantry, now it's home to two attractive built-in features - shelves and drawers next to the gardening area where JoAnn gets ready for the growing season.

No more going downstairs to do the laundry - it's in the kitchen now. When the clothes are finished, the washer and drier are hidden until next time.

Sandy continues his story "As is the case with many old houses, ours had very limited storage and counter space, so we wanted to combine the extensive kitchen renovation with a back entry/mud room, closet space, laundry facilities and, of course, ample storage. Further challenging to the construction and cabinetry design were three different levels of ceiling height that had to be accomodated, as well as the expansion of nine feet of counter space length to 41 feet. "Charles was very accomodating with all of our ideas, wishes and concerns in the preparation of design, and of course had the necessary contacts for any customized detail that was required. We were welcome to visit his workshop during all stages of construction, and early on established a good working relationship with the crew assigned to our project - whom we cannot praise highly enough . . . they are masters!!! "Charles and his crew really came through and have given us a beautifully incorporated, wonderfully functional and practical kitchen. They masterfully took solid, rough wood and transformed it into beautiful, customized cabinetry. It's no exaggeration to say they really are the very best! We couldn't be more pleased!" |
