When Calvin DeLorey and his son Stephen were planning to build a woodworking shop next to Stephen's home,
they had no idea that down the road, it would be much more than that.
Seeing outside 'the box,' then upgrading the rafters to load-bearing,
allowed them to put the upper area to good use - as attractive, smoothly functioning living
quarters for Calvin, who had sold his home in Gold River. "It took two years to build before it was completely
finished," he notes.
The retired contractor, former owner of Halifax-based Maritime Sound, had a tough time finding the right cabinet maker. "They'd limit me to certain modules," he recalls. "That wouldn't work - the cabinets had to be adapted to fit the space."

Fortunately, someone recommended Charles Lantz. Despite some unusual angles, the cabinets "fit perfectly," acknowledges Calvin. "Charlie also designed other features - a built-in coat closet and a wall of built-in closets in the bedroom. He filled wasted space."

"He is the nicest man in the world," Calvin continues. "I recommend him 100 per cent - he can take a design and run with it - he's so obliging. I have the utmost respect for Charlie. He can design anything." |
