feature of the month: february '08 |
Gary & Gwen's waterfront home is just over a Century old. "We knew the kitchen had to go," recalls Gary, "but we had to do other things first - it was a big project."
And they knew the right man to do the work:Charles Lantz. The couple credits Charles with
a "significant
part" of the design. "We knew where certain appliances would go and that's
about it," says Gary.
The dream kitchen features a solid granite countertop,
all new lighting, and flooring with infloor heating. The six month project included opening the space between the
kitchen and den with a large archway, revamping the entryway with spacious floor-to-ceiling closets hidden from view behind
a six-pack of handsome doors, as well as building an addition at the back door with
washer, dryer and shower.
"The crew was unbelievable," says Gary. "Real real real craftsman, no question. They were
excellent. There's no other way
to describe them."

Housing floor-to-ceiling cabinetry under the kitchen's nine-foot ceilings would have been a bit much, Gary says.
The stretch allowed Charles to design cabinetry with varied elevations - a striking feature in a fabulous kitchen.
The couple are delighted the transformed room is their home's focal point.
The contractor was Paul Kaulback.
CLC cabinet builder Richard Hirtle was assisted by Dana Tanner, Brent Strong was the sprayer.
