Last November (2010), Don Bolivar & his wife, Carolyn, moved into his 130-year-old family home.
Don's grandparents and parents had both raised families in the Crousetown house.
In 1951, when Don's family came to the Bolivar home,
there was one cold water tap, an outhouse and a small bathroom
divided into two tiny parts thanks to a chimney coming up through the middle.
His mother got herself a
new kitchen - just like Carolyn would nearly 60 years later.
For the past 20 years, Carolyn & Don were pleased to use a compact convection-microwave oven.
When family or friends came over for a meal, it was served on two sets of TV tables.

A new kitchen - with a range and more space - would be a welcome upgrade! They met Charles Lantz and were impressed. Although the Bolivars wanted to shop locally, they went into Halifax to see what was available. "When we saw the quality there," notes Carolyn, "We knew we weren't going with Halifax. As for locally, we didn't look any further."

They wanted the dark kitchen to be lighter, to add cabinetry for the fridge, enlarge the window over the sink and have an
island.
"Charles suggested drawers - they're a lot easier," says Carolyn.
"We call Roy his First Lieutenant," adds Don.
"Roy's amazing," says Carolyn. "We listened very carefully to him."
The Bolivars had their first family gathering with the new kitchen on Thanksgiving.
"We had 10 people!" recalls a delighted Carolyn.

Charles Lantz comments:
"You will notice for a small space there is a lot going on, the amount of storage space is unbelievable. It gave me great pleasure to help the Bolivars with the design and construction of this Shaker maple kitchen. Thank you from the staff of CLC. I hope you are enjoying this great space!"
